Lizzy Whitney | MFA1

about

Hi! My name is Lizzy Whitney and I’m from Portland, Oregon, where I got my BFA in Graphic Design at Pacific Northwest College of Art. I’m an MFA Graphic Design student at Calarts and just completed my second year here. I have recently found my love for 3D and motion, but I still practice other areas of design. My work is based on typography, image making, shape-based work, research, activism, publication, environment and experimentation. I enjoy working with color and am inspired by out-of-the-box thinking, community collaboration, and personal touches that go into each project, whether for a client or an individual project. Outside of being a designer, I love nature, friends, concerts, pop culture, fashion, history, iced chai, humor, and meeting new people:) I also find myself using some of these personal interests in the work I create.

Bimmer Bazaar is a virtual showroom where we invite you to re-experience the timeless classics through our newest concept cars. As we look toward the future, the showroom allows you to see how BMW continues to innovate, while remembering history through image, sound, and BMW’s legacy of creating an emotional experience.

Bimmer Bazaar isn’t just about looking at cars; it’s about reliving moments and reconnecting with memories. It’s a sensory journey that transcends time and brings the future of driving into the space where the past never fades.

Web & Simulation

  • #Motion
  • #Print

My two words were web & simulation. I made two posters, one titled “Tangled Truths In A Web Of Lies” and the other titled “The Webs We Weave. The Realities We Spin.” I focused on the internet and media because, in the past few years, the internet has started to become a very confusing place for what is true and what is false. I pay attention to politics a lot and have noted how the depths of the internet can create many different realities. Fake news is very common across social media platforms today and misinformation is seeping into mainstream media. In response to this concept, I focused on using type as texture for these posters and wanted to play with readability and lack thereof. I experimented with layering to create the depth of the internet and illegibility to connect to the idea that not all of this information is true/ can be understood.

This motion graphic weaves the two posters together. I wanted to highlight the depth in a 3d/digital space because most media is read digitally today. When you are too zoomed in on something (rabbit hole or one fixed reality), it’s hard to see the bigger picture.

Motion poster for UK garage artist Reek0. This is a 3d record model where I focused on lighting and material. I also designed the record label and based it off his music video visuals. A motion poster focused on his song, Assassin Riddim, while also highlighting his album as a whole and who he is.
